Gag grouper is tightly limited this year, with Gulf state waters open only September 1 to 14 and federal waters September 1 to October 1, so red grouper carries the bottom fishing the rest of the year. Mangrove and lane snapper are open year round, greater amberjack is closed for the whole 2026 season under a rebuilding plan, and king mackerel and cobia run the nearshore in spring and fall. The wrecks hold catch-and-release goliath grouper all year.
