The boats
The two headline boats are the draw. The Escape is a 65 foot walk-around that carries up to 28 anglers, the boat for a walk on trip or a large group, and the Lady Ann is a 57 foot Gillman sport fisherman, an appointed boat with air conditioning, a head with a hot shower, and a galley, comfortable for a smaller group or an overnight run. These are the biggest, best appointed boats in the port. The honest complication is the rest of the booking page, which lists six pack boats (a 31 foot Cape Horn, a 40 foot catamaran, and others) that share the operation’s phone number but appear to be run by separate captains, so confirm which boat and captain you are booking.
The fishing and what you target
Captain Mike’s fishes the reefs and the deep water off Dauphin Island. The bottom trips work the artificial reefs for red snapper, vermilion snapper, triggerfish, and amberjack, and the overnight blue water runs reach the rigs for yellowfin tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, and billfish. Red snapper runs in the federal for-hire season, June 1 to October 26, 2026, on the federally permitted boats. Amberjack is closed until September 1 and triggerfish from June into August, so an early summer bottom trip leans on snapper. Captain Mike’s prices two ways. A walk on seat by the person runs from about $180 for a bottom trip, the affordable way onto the Gulf here, up to $950 per person for a blue water walk on. A private large group charter on the Lady Ann or the Escape runs about $2,700 for 6 hours up to $4,000 for 12 for 1 to 14 anglers, with more per head above that, and an overnight blue water trip is $9,000 to $9,900 for the boat. The crew
Captain King Marchand took over the operation in 2021, after Captain Mike Thierry’s 50 years and with Skipper Thierry still around the dock, so the family thread runs through it. The reviews praise spotless boats, hustling deckhands, and captains who want guests to have a good day, with repeat customers a recurring note. The tail is honest too: a reviewer left after a last minute cancellation, and another after a slow, troll heavy blue water day. On a big boat the crew is what carries the trip, and here it is good but not flawless.

Book online through the operator’s booking system or by phone. The boats leave from the Dauphin Island Marina at the foot of the bridge.
