Its case is straightforward: the most capable boats, the widest trip menu, and a customer record deeper than any other Seward operation by raw count. It suits a group after a serious halibut day, anyone who wants the long range or overnight run, and a big party that wants to fish together on one boat. The trade is the flip side of scale, and it is real. The full day trips run as mixed parties of 12 to 16 anglers, so the day is less personal than a six anglers boat, and while the booking platform record is excellent, the open review platforms carry a mixed spread, with several pointed complaints about a captain and about communication sitting alongside the praise. The boats
The headline boats are the Legacy and the Legend, two 53 foot Delta Marine cabin cruisers, each licensed for up to 16 anglers, with the 43 foot Renegade as the third hull. These are the largest boats in the Seward fleet, and the size is the point: they ride the open Gulf of Alaska better on a long run, carry the fuel and range for the offshore halibut grounds and the overnight and long range trips, and hold a big group in heated comfort. The Legacy was restored in 2020. The honest read is that the same size that makes them capable also makes the standard full day a busy, shared deck of a dozen or more anglers, so if you picture a quiet six anglers trip this is not it. For the long reach and the big water, the boats earn their score; for an intimate day, look smaller.
The fishing and what you target
Saltwater Safari fishes the full Seward season and then some. Pacific halibut is the headline, including the long range runs to the offshore grounds that the bigger boats can reach. King salmon come into Resurrection Bay from late May into July and silver salmon through July and August, with lingcod, Pacific cod, and rockfish filling the box. The salmon shark trips and the overnight runs are the operation’s signature, the trips the small boats in the port do not offer. The 2026 charter halibut rules allow two fish a day, one of any size and one 27 inches or under, with no charter halibut retention on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from June 2 to August 25, so confirm the current halibut measures with NOAA Fisheries and the salmon timing with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Saltwater Safari lists its shared trips on FishingBooker on a two angler basis, so the headline figures read for two people sharing the boat. A 5 hour half day for silver salmon is $598 for two, a spring cod and rockfish day is $660, and a 10 hour full day for halibut runs $750 in May up to $950 in July and August. Trips leave from the boardwalk at the 1210 4th Avenue harbor, early in the morning, so plan the early start and confirm the day before. Bring warm, waterproof layers, food, sunscreen, and motion sickness precautions, since the long runs and the open Gulf can be rough, and hold an Alaska sport fishing license before you board.
